Day 151, 27.02.2025. — The real travel days. 🚍
So, here we are at the bus stop at six in the morning. The bus arrives at African time — around seven. It’s raining, but at least we had electricity last night, thanks to solar panels. Without them, relying on the national power grid would be impossible. 😑 The bus pulls up, having started its route in Lusaka. We already covered five hours on the road yesterday. Fourteen more ahead. 🚍
The roads are actually okay, compared to others we’ve taken. The bus isn’t too bad either — everyone has their own seat, which we secure for ourselves, and the ride is relatively smooth. 🏃 We’ve repacked our bags because Tanzania has a plastic ban. We were ready for this even before leaving Latvia — homework done. Prepared for every country, even if not every country is ready to welcome us. 💁
Tanzania banned plastic bags nationwide in 2019 to fight plastic pollution. Travelers can still carry plastic bags for medical use or those used for liquids in carry-on luggage. 🛍️ But honestly, they should watch out for their own people. 😝 Never have we seen such disregard for nature. 🤦 Plastic bottles fly out of bus windows, plastic bags filled with plastic chip packets follow. If grandpa were sitting closer, he’d get a slap. 😮💨 We’ve traveled a lot, and it’s rarely this noticeable elsewhere. Yet another reason why…
