Day 84, 22.12.2024. — We’re flying! ✈️

The morning starts with fried potatoes — what could be better? 🥔 Then, a two-hour walk to the airport. It’s Sunday, God’s day. Churches are full, and prayers echo in the morning air, even though the night before was loud with a massive concert just outside our window, continuing until 4 a.m. Many locals were drunk and noisy. 🥴 Even on a Sunday, beer is not off the table. “White guy, hey white guy, come drink!” shout the bar patrons, and there’s no shortage of bars here. Of course, Google Maps takes us through tiny alleys, where the locals don’t invite us for drinks but instead, drunkenly ask for money. We laugh, greet them, and move on. 👣

Men pee everywhere, no shame and no hiding. Any puddle will do. We’ve never seen so many men in such action or so much of their “equipment” on display. 🫣 Some of them, completely crazy, roam around stark naked.

These narrow streets reveal true local life. Small, crumbling schools, piles of beer bottles, and artisans crafting beautiful chairs and sofas amidst the chaos. 🙃 Closer to the airport, there’s a mall. It’s a different world altogether — expensive shops, air conditioning, a few Arab-looking men, and a handful of “white people.” 👽 These are the ones who take taxis from the airport to the mall, then to fancy hotels, and only visit curated…
