Day 48, 16.11. 2024 - Goodbye, Sierra Leone? 👋

We’re up before the songs of Allah, and strangely enough, the rooster is already waiting with its song at four. 🐓 We rush into the city on a tuk-tuk, also called “keke” here, admiring how the lights shine on the hills — like stars! ✨ Like diamonds! 💎 By the way, diamonds are a key export product of Sierra Leone, making up half of its mineral exports! 👀

Yesterday, we were told to arrive at 5:30, but we already know that our Japanese friends didn`t leave until 7:00 when they took the same route yesterday. But, it turns out, the bus to Bo is especially popular on Saturdays, and all the tickets are sold out! 😬 So what now? Naturally, assistants rush to help, suggesting we talk to the driver, rerouting our plans to other destinations. Eventually, they find an old man selling the last seat — someone didn’t show up for their trip. He takes an extra euro — earned. ✅ Then, he tells the other to stay seated in the aisle next to the ticket-holder. Will the driver agree? Of course! We’re not alone — a bunch of people are crammed on tiny seats in the middle of the bus. To show appreciation, we give tips to two guys — that’s how it’s done here, even twenty euro cents make them happy.
