🇬🇼 11/2024 Guinea — Bissau Travel
Day 31, 30.10.2024 — A Little More Senegal? 🇸🇳
We arrive at the Nigerian Embassy in Gambia, where a familiar face greets us — it’s the guy who refused to pay a bribe yesterday. The staff are angry because he shows up an hour earlier than they requested. Still, he’ll get his visa, even without a bribe. 📄 The Germans here, on the other hand, haven’t been so lucky. They’ve paid bribes twice already, even handing cash to the ambassador’s assistant when it isn`t demanded. 🙄 Corruption like this never ends, does it?
We’ve managed to escape relatively unscathed. At first, we think about arguing but decide it’s not worth it. Instead of waiting a week and a half like some, we only have to wait three business days. The bribe? Just €7 for the passport fee — not the €30 the Germans shelled out. And choosing to apply for our Nigerian visa in Gambia was a smart move. Costs vary drastically depending on where you apply. 💰 The Germans confirm this, sharing a friend’s story of paying €300 elsewhere. Lesson learned: cheaper countries = cheaper visas. 🤓 Take note, fellow travelers! 🧳
Of course, the embassy staff make a show of their frustration. They loudly complain, especially about “white people” comparing bribery experiences. Still, we get our passports back, visa in hand, and we’re ready to move on! 🚀
