🇸🇳 10/2024 Senegal Travel
Day 18, 17.10.2024. — Hello, Senegal! 🇸🇳
What a nightmare of a night. 🌚 We find Abdou, who lets us stay in his room on the roof for just 10 euros — super cheap by Mauritania standards. Of course, first we have to say we don’t have the requested 25 euros. 🤫 Abdou is actually very kind; he even brings us bread and water from the shop for free. The baguette we share is our entire three meals combined. Today, we had no time for anything else. 💁
The night is absolutely horrible. Mosquitoes couldn’t care less about our super spray. Arča says, “If we don’t get malaria now, I don’t know what to think.” 😅 It’s unbearably hot and humid. We try to sleep but keep sweating, and we’re swatting mosquitoes since there’s no net. You can feel your body is tired, but somehow, it’s impossible to relax. 😶 By 2:00 AM, we still can’t sleep (note: the room is in a rather criminal state — broken bed, stained sheets, dirty and run-down…). All of a sudden, the donkeys in the town start braying suspiciously, so we get up and move desperately to the roof to sleep outside for some fresh air. But then the wind picks up. 🌬️ The sky darkens ominously. Oh, yep, looks like we won’t be sleeping through this storm! 👀 We hurry back to the room, shut the windows, and try to secure the curtains flying around from the incoming storm. Poor animals! They must’ve felt it! 🫏 And then the heavy rain…
