Day 111, 18.01.2025. Our 110th country! ✨
There’s nothing better than a good night’s sleep with the air conditioning running nonstop. 😴 Electricity, water — everything works. Feels like all our troubles stayed behind in Kinshasa. 😅 Sure, Matadi also has trash in the streets and muddy roads, but at this point, it’s not even worth mentioning. 💁
Today is the day we visit what was once Africa’s longest suspension bridge. On the way, immigration officers stop us. 👮 One of them gets so frustrated that he can’t get our attention he starts spitting on the ground. Luckily, he cools down quickly; otherwise, he might’ve earned a few choice words. 🤬
The officers are official, not scammers. They check our passports but don’t ask for any money. 👍 The bridge — built with help from the Japanese — is impressive. Around us are lush green hills, a scenic contrast to the chaos of the city. 🏞️ The Democratic Republic of Congo is definitely worth a visit, but it’s not for the faint-hearted. It’s a destination for those who enjoy a real adventure, complete with its share of risks and surprises. 🥒
Even our farewell from the Congo is memorable. 🇨🇩 We stop for some spaghetti with eggs at a small roadside stand. The locals immediately find us a table and chairs. 🪑 We show them on the map where Latvia is — straight-line distance, 6,774 km…
